Hi! I’m Shamana and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband Amit and our daughter Anaaya.
As a full time working mother, one of the best parts of my day is being greeted with the biggest hug my girl can possibly give me with her tiny arms. For the next few minutes, all she wants to do is talk about how each of our days went and while we do so, I have my eye on the clock and my mind on – What’s for dinner?
My heritage is Indian and I was raised in the city of Muscat in the Middle East. I grew up with mostly Asian and Arabic flavors and although I didn’t quite venture much into the kitchen at the time, nutritious & tasty food has always been a big part of my life.
When I moved for college to Southern California, I was exposed to a variety of cuisines and The Food Network, which is when I truly realized my passion for cooking. When I met Amit, I think one of the things we bonded over and still enjoy is good food. We are lucky to have great access to fresh and organic ingredients with a lot of amazing restaurants for inspiration!
Since we have a toddler’s dinner to think about now, it is not only important but convenient for us to have one meal as a family. Let’s face it, after a long and tiring day at work for both my husband and I, it is very easy and tempting to order in! While we totally have such nights, we try to keep them to a minimum and instead create recipes which are quick, nutritious, flavorful and can be prepped ahead of time.
Spoonful Of Sesame is about bridging the gap between our child’s meal and our meal by gently introducing them early on to healthy super foods, flavors and spices that we enjoy as adults. It is a perfect go to recipe guide for busy working families with kids who want to put a simple and wholesome home cooked meal on the table.
